Vocation Brewery

Vocation Brewery

The Vocation Brewery from Hebden Bridge in England is known far beyond its national borders.

John Hickling worked in the IT department of a bank. The money was good, but he had a desire to do more than just create spreadsheets, so one day the beer fanatic decided to brew his own beer. To do so, he built a tiny brewery in his kitchen with plastic buckets and parts from the hardware store. When John served his first beers to his friends to try, they all agreed that his beer tasted better than what they could usually order at the Pub.

Inspired by this, he quit his job, sold his house and co-founded his first brewery in 2008. The accolades weren't long in coming, and the brewery was a huge success.

After selling his first brewery, he couldn't stop brewing and started Vocation Brewery in 2015 with one employee, a converted chicken coop and a dog.

Today, Vocation Brewery has about 60 employees and sells the equivalent of 10 million cans a year. The microbrewery has more than earned its success, because the craft beers are still absolutely stunning, creative, and a pleasure to drink.
