Moor Beer Company

Moor Beer Company from Bristol, England

Moor Beer was reborn in 2007 when Californian Justin Hawke bought the defunct company and started a brewery that has since reestablished an excellent reputation worldwide. Named after the Levels and Moors region of Somerset where the brewery originated, Moor Beer moved to the center of Bristol behind Temple Meads Rail Station in 2014 and now offers a tap room, store and tours.

Whether in a pub, on the street or at an event, Moor Beer Company lives life to the fullest and want their beers to do the same. Always live, always natural, always vegan friendly.

Natural carbonation with live yeast is at the heart of all their craft beers. Live beer has a unique texture, full flavor and smooth mouthfeel. That's why Moor Beer Company was the first brewery to be certified to produce naturally carbonated live beer in all product formats - can and keg. Live life, drink live! - this is their motto.

Moor pioneered the non-filtered beer movement because they firmly believe that adding isinglass (fish gut) to beer has a negative impact on quality. Leaving the live yeast and other aromatics in the beer improves the aroma, flavor, appearance and mouthfeel. It also makes the beer more vegan, which is true for all their beers - ales and lagers alike.

Good beer is about taste, drinkability and enjoyment. Moor combine the German naturally cloudy approach with American flavor-driven techniques and the British tradition of secondary fermentation to produce unique dynamic, drinkable beers.

They start with expertly kilned British malt, select hops from around the world, and yeast from their in-house lab. Moor even treat their water differently for each recipe to ensure the beers always have the right flavor and mouthfeel - whether the finish is crisp and dry or full-bodied.

Brewing live beer is very time consuming, mainly because of the extra time needed for intensive dry hopping and natural conditioning. That's why Moor Beer Company takes their time and only release the beer after it has passed a variety of quality tests, which has earned them SALSA certification. This extra attention to detail and quality means that their beers age incredibly well and develop an extra measure of roundness and flavor over time. This has earned Moor Beer Company numerous international awards (including "Champion Winter Beer of Britain" for Old Freddy Walker), a host of top ratings, and being named "Brewer of the Year 2017" by the British Guild of Beer Writers.
