India Pale Ale

India Pale Ale - IPA

The India Pale Ale became widespread due to the British colonial expansion. At the time, IPAs had a distinct advantage in that they had a longer shelf life, making them easier to transport to the most remote stations of the British Empire's troops. IPAs are more bitter and stronger in taste than a Pale Ale. The West Coast IPA is an American variation of the British IPA. It is more intense in flavour and bitterness. Another subtype worth mentioning is the New England IPA, which has less bitterness but more fruity aromas. It usually uses powerful aromatic hops, is very cloudy and often uses oats to make it even smoother to drink.
